Giving with purpose

A military charity with a focused mission.

Choosing where to give can be personal. You may be honoring someone who served, carrying a family connection to the military, or looking for work that meets America’s unfinished obligation to its missing. History Flight exists for that obligation.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, History Flight concentrates on the cases that have waited too long for resolution. It brings historical research, field investigation, recovery, and the path toward repatriation into one sustained effort. A gift supports a mission with a clear purpose: pursue evidence, protect what is found, and help bring answers closer to the families still waiting.

What your gift stands behind

Research. Recover. Repatriate.

Each part matters because a responsible answer is built step by step, not assumed into existence.

01

Research

Before a team reaches a site, History Flight studies the evidence that can give a case direction: military records, unit histories, maps, archival photographs, family information, and the changing history of a landscape. The work asks what the evidence proves, what remains uncertain, and which lead deserves careful pursuit.

02

Recover

When a lead becomes a field mission, recovery requires preparation, skill, and restraint. Researchers, archaeologists, anthropologists, investigators, safety specialists, and support staff work to locate and document evidence with the seriousness owed to every service member and every family.

03

Repatriate

Recovery is a meaningful step, not a final claim. Recovered evidence must be handled and documented responsibly so it can enter the official identification process. That path can lead to the homecoming and honors a service member earned, and to an answer a family has carried for generations.

Why focused support matters

Recovery begins long before the fieldwork.

A place on a map is not yet a case. It becomes one through patient investigation: reading a unit record against a wartime map, comparing a report with a photograph, listening closely to a family memory, or returning to a detail that has been overlooked for years. That preparation shapes whether a field mission begins with a grounded question and a responsible plan.

Gifts help make that discipline possible. They support the time needed to review records, prepare expeditions, travel to remote sites, and preserve evidence for the next stage of the process. The work rarely fits into a single moment, but its purpose remains direct: follow the evidence as far as it can go for the people who have waited.

A choice rooted in respect

Give to the work, not a vague promise.

History Flight does not present recovery as simple or guaranteed. Every case carries its own history, its own gaps in the record, and its own responsibility to the person at its center. The organization’s role is to meet that responsibility with persistence, technical care, and respect for the evidence.

That is why a donation has weight. It helps sustain the people and preparation required to move from a question to a credible lead, from a credible lead to a careful search, and from recovery to the official process that may bring a family an answer. It supports the quiet work that cannot be rushed: reading, comparing, planning, documenting, and returning to a problem until the evidence speaks more clearly.

There is no substitute for this groundwork. A field team can work responsibly only when the research has narrowed a question, prepared a plan, and made room for the uncertainty that still remains. When the evidence changes, the plan must change with it. That discipline protects the integrity of a recovery and the trust placed in the organization by families, supporters, and the public.

The mission also stays connected to people. A wartime record can be technical, and an excavation site can be remote, but each one is tied to a service member whose absence has shaped a family’s life. History Flight approaches that responsibility with care for the person, the history, and the possibility of an answer. A gift helps maintain that standard through the long arc of a case.

For donors, clarity matters. History Flight does not reduce a contribution to a promise of a particular outcome, because each case must be allowed to follow the evidence. Instead, the organization shows the work a gift can sustain: research before a mission, care during recovery, and responsible documentation once evidence is found. That is a more honest measure of stewardship, and a more meaningful way to stand with the mission.

Giving can also preserve momentum. A lead may require further records, another conversation, a new map comparison, or time in the field before it can be understood. Sustained support makes it possible to keep pursuing those questions with the same seriousness after the first search, the first document, or the first setback. The mission remains patient because the people at its center deserve patience.

It is a commitment that respects both the public trust and the uncertainty that responsible research requires. The mission does not end when a question becomes difficult. It continues through careful work, measured judgment, and a refusal to let years of silence become the final word.

For a donor, that focus creates a meaningful line of sight. Your gift supports a military charity devoted to the service members still absent from their families and the history of their country. It helps History Flight continue to Research, Recover, Repatriate with the dignity each case requires.

The results are measured in more than activity. They are measured in recovered service members, official identifications, and families who no longer have to live with an unanswered absence. That is the standard behind the mission, and the reason the work continues.
